Government

Government mostly reflect the will of the Crown. Over Amber’s history, various administrative functions have been delegated to departments of government that largely function without regular contact with the royal court. Management of the city itself (public works, fire protection, local law enforcement, pest and animal control) is one example of such.

Law & Order

Legally speaking, the power of the Crown has traditionally been absolute. Tradition, however, has given rise to a system of laws which have served Amber well and are slow to change. Drastic changes require a substantial investment of effort and political capital on the part of the Crown, and as such as typically only implemented in the face of imminent security threats. Most other matters can be considered subject to the rule of law.
